I was incredibly inspired by James Gunn's Superman film that came out in July of 2025. After seeing it opening night, I rushed home to jot down my thoughts and I saw the idea clear as day.
In an exchange between Lois and Superman, she says she grew up as a punk rock kid and he's "...Superman", saying her point is that outside of her journalist roll, she still scrutinizes the world around her and Superman loves everyone and trusts so easily, making that "beautiful" to her. To end the exchange, Superman delivers the iconic line of the summer: "Maybe thats thats the real punk rock"
If punk rock means going against the grain and rebelling against The Man, then maybe kindness is the modern day punk rock.
